We are nearing completion of a revised edition of "Classic Warbirds - Spitfire the ANZACs". A photo of Flying Officer Larry Cronin's Spitfire F.VIII, in March 1944, appears in the book. It posses an interesting question about this particular Spifire's comouflage scheme ...



Above is a photo of Cronin's Mk VIII taken in March 1944 in India. Note the contrast between the three comouflage colours indicating Dark Green and Ocean Grey in a reversed pattern with Medium Sea Grey below.

OR, Is this actually a "standard" Green and brown aircraft with Medium Sea Grey (or light blue) lower surfaces. In this case the lighter upper surface colour would be green and the very dark one brown. Below are two profiles illustrating the possibilities. What do you think?
