Scroll down the page to view the 1/32nd scale Hasegawa P-40N marked as "Gloria Lyons" built by Steve Westerby, a Director of Niche Models the importer of Hasegawa kits into New Zealand.

Sheet V3276 is a large double sheet which includes enough decals to build three of five options. American Volunteer Group - Nationalist Chinese, one of two RAAF and one of two RNZAF subjects, including “Gloria Lyons”

P-40N NZ3220 was the third P-40 named Gloria Lyons by No.4 Servicing Unit, RNZAF, late 1944. This decal sheet provides both variations of “Gloria Lyons” artwork worn by NZ3220.

The naming of several successive P-40s “owned” by No.4 SU as “Gloria Lyons” was the result of correspondence between two armourers of the unit on New Georgia with a pen-friend who suffered from tuberculosis in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her name was Gloria Lyons and it was decided to adopt the sick girl as a unit mascot.
The first P-40 named Gloria Lyons was NZ3184. After this aircraft was written off on February 9th, 1944, another candidate was found in NZ3167, but this aircraft was written off two weeks later on May 17th, 1944.
P-40N-20 NZ3220, was selected as the third Gloria Lyons and was duly marked as depicted in this decal sheet. NZ3220 survived the war and the melting pot and now is privately owned and stored near Nelson New Zealand.
The cumulative scores and missions of the three 'Gloria Lyons' P-40s were painted on the cowl of NZ3220 before it returned to New Zealand in late 1944. See http://rnzaf.hobbyvista.com/gl.html

Left. NZ3220 still in the Pacific war zone before being shipped home, late 1944. The aircraft now has a larger version of the “Gloria Lyons” nose art with the nose letter “G” over-printed.

P-40N-20 NZ3259 - "L" - "Leslie",

Also included on the sheet is P-40N-20 NZ3259 - "L" - "Leslie", was operated by No.2 SU between May and June 1944. It was the highest serial RNZAF P-40 to see combat in the Pacific. The name Leslie appeared on both sides of the nose and its camouflage scheme was the same as NZ3220 “Gloria Lyons”.

P-40N “Boss’s Hoss”, flown by Lt. Colonel William N Reed of the Chinese-American Composite Wing, August 1944.

P-40N “Boss’s Hoss”, P-11461. Camouflage scheme is Olive Drab upper surfaces with Neutral Grey lower surfaces. The Nationalist Chinese insignia is in the same location above and below the wings in four positions. The aircraft was flown by Lt. Colonel Reed, CO of the 7th FS, 3rd FG Chinese-American Composite Wing at Liangshan, China in August 1944. Reed finished the war with nine victories.

BU-O “Angry Bee” was a P-40N Kittyhawk of No.80 Squadron RAAF, piloted by Lt. Ken Goldring, Noemfoor Island in November 1944.

P-40N BU-O was a Kittyhawk of No.80 Squadron RAAF piloted by Lt. Ken Goldring. The serial number, A29-671, was concealed by white paint.
P-40N BU-O. Starboard side.

It's camouflage scheme was standard American Olive Drab and Neutral Grey with white theatre markings on wing leading edges and tail section. The decal depicts the aircraft in November, 1944 on Noemfoor Island with well worn paint scheme. The spinner, rudder tip (a flight in Squadron marking) and wing walk are black.

P-40N A29-572 “Watch my form” of No.78 Squadron RAAF, on Noemfoor Island, late 1944.

P-40N A29-572 served with No.78 Squadron on Noemfoor Island in late 1944. The scheme is based on a photo showing Sgt. D A Smyth about to take off on a dive bombing mission. The “Lucky 13” was written as a temporary marking, possibly for one mission. The cowling with “Watch my form” has been photographed on more than one P-40 and has pale blue lower surfaces. Modellers may add lighter pink highlights to the womans body. Spinner is white with a black cap.
